Toxicokinetics Discussion
According to the National Assessment of Adult Literacy, more than one third of U.S. adults have limited health literacy which makes it more difficult for them to read, understand, and apply health information. Although the average reading level is eighth- grade level, more than 75% of patient education materials are written at a high school or college reading level. An important strategy to improve health literacy is to make written and oral information easier to understand by using plain language and not complicating the content with medical jargons that can often be confusing.
In your initial post, describe the toxicokinetic topic assigned to you. Your writing should be at a sixth-grade reading level. Based on your aspect, the post should provide an example of how something could be toxic or not toxic. Use simple sentences and analogies to assist you in decreasing reading level while maintaining content level. As part of your three response posts, expand on the postings of two of your classmates to convey the definition of your assigned term. Provide examples of what your local or state health departments do to protect the population from these compounds. Response posts do not have to be at a sixth-grade reading level. Be sure to provide references for the principle points you are making.
