Then, you will also create a short video application that accompanies your cover letter (please see assignment 1, part 2 for more details).

  2. Read the links provided on COTROnline for tips and guidelines to writing a good cover letter.
  3. Write and edit your cover letter.

What you will need to submit for part 1:

  2. Your cover letter in a word document. Please name your document as follows: assignment1_COMC102_yourname.

Part 2:

In this Part 2 of assignment, you will create a video application for a specific job offer. You will locate an existing job offer (please use the same one as in part 1) and create a video application that highlights your skills and interests to match the skills and requirements outlined in the job offer. This video is to accompany the cover letter you provided for Part 1.

PART 2

Today, many companies request a video application to accompany the traditional cover letter and resume. These videos help companies assess certain qualities they are looking for in a candidate. You will create a short video that accompanies your cover letter. Your video should take the following into consideration (adapted from: https://www.themuse.com/advice/7-steps-to-a-killer-videoapplication):

  1. Plan Before You Film. Think about what you would like to say and how you’d like to present yourself.
  2. Don’t Recite Your Cover Letter. Provide a conversational, yet professional, approach to your video.
  3. Work From a Script but avoid reading directly from it – use your script as your guide.
  4. Make Sure Your Video is clear and audible. We want to see you and hear what you have to say!
  5. Your video should be between 1-2 minutes in length.
