Book Review 3 – Kappeler and Potter

Brief (4-5 page) summaries of each of the assigned texts (hard copy and online) will be required for each text, although writing-related texts will be combined, leaving a total of 5 reviews. Summarize the readings, apply to current events, and include a critical analysis of the text.

Once I determine whether the assignment is on time, my grading criteria are simple. While reading, I ask three questions:

1. Did you read it?
2. Did you think about it?
3. Did you apply the readings?

To assist my efforts, please structure your journals in two sections:

1. Content – Summarize the assigned text. Just the facts. Demonstrate you have done the reading.
2. So What? – Include a heading for this section. Do the readings reinforce, or challenge, popular ideas about crime, crime control, and “criminals?” How are these readings related to each other? Do the readings relate to current events, readings in other classes, personal experiences and opinions, etc.
