Describe, in detail, the three ways water is weird and how those properties relate specifically to the ocean.

Explain the relationship between temperature, salinity, and density in the oceans. Be sure to use terminology from lecture and relate this relationship to the oceanic process of deep ocean circulation.

Using the map below and with your understanding of surface ocean circulation please explain whether a chemical spill into the ocean off the coast of San Diego (Location B) during the Month of December is a concern only those in California or would others countries be concerned? Why?

Week Three Lecture Review Questions

Please explain, in detail why the wave conditions in certain parts of Hawaii are different than our conditions here in southern California. Note: to answer this question fully you will need to reference information from week two topics.

Explain the relationship that exists between the tides, the moon, and the sun. Within your response please discuss the how the relative position of these objects in space effect the tides (i.e. aligned or off-set etc.).

Please describe the special kind of wave called a tsunami. Discuss how they form and what their characteristics are.

Please compare and contrast the two coastline characteristics of the United States; west vs east. Note: This will require tying together concepts from previous weeks work as well.

Living with Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a disorder that garners a lot of interest, likely due to the more “bizarre” aspects of the positive symptoms of the disorder, including delusions, hallucinations, disorganized thinking, and inappropriate affect. With only 1% of the population suffering from Schizophrenia, it can be helpful to “experience” the symptoms and their impact through a fairly accurate biographical depiction. If you have not already done so, this week you will watch the portrayal of John Forbes Nash, Jr.’s struggle with schizophrenia in the movie A Beautiful Mind.

To prepare for this Assignment:

• Describe how Nash’s symptoms of schizophrenia are presented in the film, including behavioral descriptions of his positive, negative, and/or psychomotor symptoms as appropriate.

• Review the ways theorists explain schizophrenia using psychological and sociocultural factors (not biological), and offer your conceptualization of Nash’s development of schizophrenia from these two

• Based on your conceptualization above, what treatment options would you recommend? (Be sure to include at least onejournal article in support of your chosen treatment options.) What type(s) of treatment(s) did Nash experience?

For this week’s Discussion, you are going to prepare a brief ecological assessment.

Please watch “Tammy’s Story” again (or read the transcript):

As you are watching, do so through an ecological lens. Look for strengths and barriers in the family’s micro, meso, and macro-level systems. See if you can find an example of a strength and a barrier in each of these three systems. Take notes on your observations; you may have to watch the video several times.

Then, prepare a brief ecological assessment of Tammy, Matt, or Bo and their situation, making sure to comment on all three ecosystems and how they interact and affect the individual that you chose as well as making sure to use a strengths-based perspective in your assessment. (Matt is Tammy’s older son and Bo is the younger son who does not wear a shirt in the video. He is referred to as “Younger Son” in the video transcript.)

Edit your brief assessment to be at least 250 words for your Discussion post.

Note: You are not proposing interventions at this stage; you are focusing exclusively on assessing Tammy, Matt, or Bo in their current environment. Your post should include some unique components. Try to identify some unique strengths or barriers your classmates have not already included when you make your initial post.
