Your target audience is students who have recently completed their undergraduate degree or professionals who are considering a Master’s program in Communication (maybe people who are just like you?) The purpose of the essay is to explain to a reader what professional opportunities may be available after concentrating in a specific area of communication study.

To accomplish this goal, write a 3-5 page article where you focus on “communication in practice” for one of the “concentrations” in the Communication Master’s program (i.e., political communication, public & media relations, or one of the other concentrations).

What would be a career path/job opportunity (or more) that a practitioner would pursue after completing this concentration?

As a student/professional pursuing this concentration, what are some of the organizations that a person should be familiar with? (be sure to make reference to organizations you have learned about through exploring reading materials)

As a student pursuing this concentration, what are some of the publications (blogs, websites, newsletters, etc.) that a person should be familiar with? Why? (please reference reading materials)

What is an example of a recent scholarly study that has been published in this area of interest? (read and summarize the study). Use the Communication & Mass Media Complete Database as a starting point, but this is not the only way to find a peer-reviewed or scholarly study.

What is an example of a recent contemporary issue/topic that has emerged related to this area of interest? (describe the issue for your readers)

–The essay is written for the intended audience (potential students) – up to 2 points

–The essay shows a thorough and accurate understanding of the reading materials (links, websites, etc.) and an ability to locate and summarize a relevant scholarly source – up to 3 points

–Writing is professional, edited and proofread for clarity and purpose & meets all requirements (page limits/APA reference style) – up to 3 points
