Task Objective

This protocol is designed to find how the difficulty level of oral practice will affect student confidence in English speaking. You will be observing lessons to concentrate on the changing difficulty of teacher questions, contents and materials, activity requirements, and other factors to be discovered.

Procedures

Before the lesson

  1. Focus on middle/high school ESL learners.

  2. Select videos connected with the following topics: teaching content and materials, oral activities, teacher-student conversations, student performances…

During the lesson

Use the chart to record oral activities from three aspects, including teacher questions, contents and materials used for discussion, and activity requirements. Take notes of at least two examples for each aspect, describe them thoroughly, and write down student responses in another column.
