Lab log
Lab log 2 should include all available data from time points 0, 1, and 2 (0, 4, and 8 weeks, respectively). Attached are 2 files, one that has the step by step guidelines to the Lab Log and the other contains all the data needed. Let me know if you are unable to find them. Please do not copy anything from any website since the professor checks for plagiarism.
Note: As promised, all of your data in its current form is now posted here on Canvas under Modules in the final presentation module. A few notes:
- The qPCR data are not complete, but there are quite a few representative sets that are present. For example, all monocultures except for Durisdinium at one time point are present. Remember that this experiment remains under progress and the data are thus still being collected and compiled. Don’t let this frighten you.
- All cell count data are complete except for 7 points in the final time point. These 7 cultures were restarted one month behind the others, as the originals were compromised in various ways. This is common in science and won’t affect your results or analyses in any large and meaningful ways.
- The data sheet contains 6 tabs: 3 for symbiont density (cell count results) and 3 for qPCR, all separated by time point and organized by temperature, nitrogen concentration, and genus. pay special attention to the parts which are in green. If you don’t know what a tab is in Excel, please look it up on Google and be sure that you can access all of them. This is critical, as if you only look at the first tab, you will not have anything meaningful to present or write about.
- Hopefully you have, during your meetings, been working with the non-data portions of your talk, and that this can simply be dropped right into your presentation. I noted during our lab meetings that most of y’all were building a presentation before even leaving, so I am confident in this.
- Don’t forget to use the rubric as a checklist to get that sweet sweet A!
- AVERAGES ARE YOUR FRIEND! As always, it is inadvisable to use individual data points in your graphs and graphics. Use averages to point out trends, and don’t forget that you are bound to produce many more graphs than you intend to use, just to investigate and examine the data. (and for goodness sake, please avoid including tables in your presentation!)
- As far the qPCR data go, remember that these are EXACTLY equivalent to symbiont density data. Just think of the “log[cell count] numbers as your symbiont density, genus-by-genus.
“Some of the formatting moved a few dividers around and made it look odd.
To clarify:
gamma (looks like a little y)=Symbiodinium+Breviolum
psi (looks like a pitchfork)=Durisdinium+Symnbiodinium
phi (cirlce with line through it)=Durisdinium+Breviolum
The polycultures have the following headers in this order:
Genus-Culture Number-Ct-Melt Temperature-log[cell count]-composition-Temperature-Nitrogen
Business: data distribution
week 3
Explain when the empirical rule can be used to help describe data in a population or a sample, defining which data distributions cannot be explained by this rule.
week 5
The manager of a fast-food store realizes that her staffing problems are a result of the variation in the number of customers that arrive at the store. If the same number of customers came each hour, she would know exactly how many servers to have working. It turns out that the Poisson distribution works well to describe the arrivals of customers in any given hour.
- Explain why the manager has more trouble staffing the store during those hours when the average arrival rate is higher
- Week 6 Discussion –
- How would you respond to a statement that says that by increasing the sample size, the amount of sampling error will be decreased?
Assignment
Japolli Bakery makes a variety of bread types that it sells to supermarket chains in the area. One of the problems is that the number of loaves of each type of bread sold each day by the chain stores varies considerably, making it difficult to know how many loaves to bake. A sample of daily demand data is contained in the file SEE ATTACHED
- Develop a frequency distribution for each bread type using appropriate intervals.
- Select which bread type has the greatest and lowest relative variability.
- Assuming that these sample data are representative of demand during the year, determine how many loaves of each type of bread should be made such that demand would be met on at least 75% of the days during the year.
History of sex in Early America
explain and analyze how ideas about sex and sexuality evolved during the colonial period. In particular, you should explain the efforts by political and religious figures to construct a uniformed code of conduct when it came to sex, as well as the ways in which different groupsand individuals crafted opposing meanings, and at other times, led lives that undermined these social visions and gender constructs.

Business Law
have a client that buys businesses that are going out of business and then sells the items on ebay at a huge mark up. He keeps his items in Storage that he rents. One day when he was unloading his truck filled with computer parts his truck driver backed into a pole that apparently had been installed without my client’s notice. This pole was completely visible, painted neon yellow and was about six feet tall. The problem is that when the truck driver was backing up, one of the landlord’s agents was directing him back and happened to be standing in front of the poll. The agent moved and the truck driver backed up right into the pole.
When the poll was hit, it split the concrete driveway causing the piping underneath to get a slight crack. The agent took the information about my client’s driver, took pictures and said it was his fault. He then told my client he would submit the paperwork to his boss so my client could be reimbursed for the damage to the truck. Unfortunately when he did submit it, he lied and said that he was standing next to the pole and my client received a demand letter for the damage to the pole.
The following week, because the pipe underneath was cracked, it rupture and all of the items in my client’s rented storage unit was destroyed.
How many issues can you find? Who is at fault? If you were the owner of the storage unit what would you do? If you were the owner of the company that rented the storage unit what would you do?

MKTG 450 Wash & Dry Study Case
Wash & Dry (WD) is a small manufacturing company with annual revenues for 2015 reaching $10 million. Located in Bellefonte, PA, WD produces various types of laundry and personal soaps as well as an array of paper products, such as paper towels and napkins. The unique nature of WD’s products has allowed it to grow from a start-up in 2010 with revenues of $1 million to where it is today. WD’s products are totally sustainable and command a higher price than competitors in the markets they serve. Their products are sold through both mass merchandisers as well as specialty retailers.
WD manufactures it products in two plants in Bellefonte: one dedicated to the soap line and one to paper products. From these two plants, finished products are transported to their distribution center located in Harrisburg, PA. From there, mixed shipments of soap and paper are sent to the retailer distribution centers where they are sorted and mixed with other products going to retail stores.
As a relatively small company, WD had a very unsophisticated set of key performance indicators (KPIs). At the plant, the KPI was “did we make what we were scheduled to make today.” At the DC, the KPI was “did we ship what we were supposed to ship today.” Although these two KPIs seemed to work in the past, WD’s growth and pressure from its retail cus-tomers for better service made it necessary for WD to consider developing a more compre-hensive set of KPIs.
Case Questions
1.If you were hired as a consultant to develop these KPIs for WD, how would you assess what KPIs they should be measuring? In general, what areas of service and cost would these KPIs address? Be sure to include both internal and customer KPIs.
2.What KPIs would you recommend for the manufacturing facility? Why?
3.What KPIs should be used at the distribution center? Why?
4.How would you measure the revenue and profit impacts of these new KPIs?”
