sociology :women in politics

Film: Women in Politics: Makers: Women Who Make America (vol. 2)

For this film review, compare Chapter 11 and the film in the areas of politics, access, attitudes toward women in Congress and Senate. How were they received by their male counterparts? Did women have any influences as members of Congress? What did they do to survive in Congress? When they ran for office, how difficult was it for them to get money and support? Do you think women have it easier today than in the past? If we elect more women to office, what do you think their issues would be? What does the future of politics look like for women? Remember, you can select a series of questions or give your overall thoughts (opinions) about women in society. NOW remember, the 70’s was a turning point for women in politics. Many women were already active in the Civil Rights movement and started to run for public office from school boards, local office, state office, and Congress. If you heard Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s speech, she mentioned that when she came into Congress, there were only a hand full of women in Congress. Today, there are over 70 members of Congress that are women, we have see how many more were elected last week. So, while you may not like Pelosi, she was the first women speaker in the history of Congress. Now, we may have the first African American speaker in Congress. The changes in Congress are happening. So, you may think the film is old, but it’s part of “her real story.”

Question 2:Week 6 July 15-21 unit 6.3 Ch. 11, 12 Gender and LGBTQ community, due Nov. 21, 11:30 pm

Chapter 11 covers a wide range of topics that is basically the history of women in the U.S. The chapter covers the social side of the history, while looking at the economic and political side of women in society. The social aspect begins with the terms “sex” and “gender,” how is this define? What does it mean when you used both in terms of interaction. For example, how do children interact with each other, boys and girls at home or school. How does socialization shape those ideas about boys and girls? Economically, we read in the chapter on immigrants about human capital, if they enter the U.S. with high human capital, they are more likely to had a good job. “Human capital theory is the view that upward mobility is a direct result of effort, personal values and skills, and investment in education” (p.35). Historically for women, they find themselves in similar economic situations as many minorities do. The thinking in society suggested that effort and personal values for women is not a strong trait. Skills and education is another trait of women not being successful. For working class women and minority women, the upper class was out of reach even if they were successful. WWII changed women and how they thought about themselves, they could now go to work and do jobs that men did. One of my aunts has a picture of about 20 women, Some are standing, while others are kneeling behind a big WWII bomber. I asked my aunt, what’s this picture? She answered proudly, “We built that plane.” What did this do to their self-esteem? I remember when I first heard “pink collar workers”, I didn’t know what this meant. I learned it mean jobs like secretarial jobs, nurses, teachers, and flight attendants. Women knew that the politics had to change. The women’s movement was all about social-economic-political change for women. When you study the SES for women in society, they are still in lower levels of society. The biggest fight is yet to come, they will elect more women representative to office. Women will be part of change along with minority women, Native American Indians, African Americans, Mexican Americans and Latinx, Asian Americans, and White liberal males or working class males. This is what California’s state legislature looks like today.

The Evelyn and Hope story in ch. 12 elaborates on the experiences that a gay/lesbian married couple go through. The way their children could be treated because their parents are gay or lesbian. Medical issues and social security problems and getting through the bureaucratic policies. Come in contact with people who are not gay or lesbian and don’t understand the difference between sexual orientation, sexual identity, and sexual behavior then treating them with disdain.

Select one the following questions typed and double spaced, report # and question #.

1. Has the move away from higher paying industrial jobs to high computer tech jobs be helpful or hurt women as they strive to achieve equality?

2. The percentage of women is increasing in traditional male occupations and decreasing in traditional female occupations (fig.11.1). Comment on whether the ideal situation would be an absolute balance across all occupations and professions, why or why not?

3. Discuss the contradictions presented for the LGBTQ community, with the data revealed in figure 12.1 and related text material. How would you explain these results? Do you believe this influences how the overall society views LGBTQ individuals?

4. How should the military handle previous discharge under the “don’t ask, don’t tell policy?”

Question 3:Today, we notice that politics is changing so slowly for women and the LGBTQ community, yet it will be interesting to see how women and gay/lesbian candidates will do politically in U.S. There are many women and gay/lesbians running for public office, from local office to Congress and Senate.Do you think running for office is easier or harder for women and gay/lesbian candidates? Does our discussion on sex and gender still affect women and gay/lesbians in politics? How will they approach issues that are important to both groups, and all our minority groups. What would be their issues? Based on past classes that I taught at SDSU years ago, when I first taught a class, many men in the class suggested that we couldn’t have a women president because they would be weak in making decisions of going to war or pushing a button for nuclear missiles, would this also apply to all our groups include the gay/lesbian candidates? What other reasons would people have against having women and minorities running for office? As the younger generations begin to take over American society(yes, this means you), what are your thoughts about a diverse future in politics, will you see a women president, Latino(a) president, Asian American president, Native American Indian president, an LGBTQ president?

Module 12 : Asian Theatre Discussion Posting

Consider the videos and articles you have just digested. Each culture has distinct characteristics, and yet there are similarities as well. Write a brief posting (250 – 350 words) in which you discuss one difference and one similarity in the treatment of religion in the play Raja Edepusfrom Indonesia and Kutiyattam: Sanskrit Theatre from India. What is common ground and what is different? Include mentions of previous productions from the semester if it helps your discussion.

A DISAPPEARING NUMBER IS NOT AN INDIAN PLAY. It is an English play that has Indian characters in the cast, and the location of the play is partly in England and partly in India. Please do not refer to this play in your writing as an example of Indian theatre.

closure of a set of functional dependencies

Post 1:- A functional dependency is a dependency in nature, not a conceptual dependency because it holds for the data to be logically related. The attributes in a functional dependency are often called the dependent attribute, and the other is called the principal attribute (McMurray et al., 2021). Functional dependencies are usually expressed as mathematical functions in functional analysis and mathematical-statistics texts. We will consider two semantics equivalent if they agree for every instance that satisfies the schema and assign the same set of functional dependencies. For any relation schema R and any models a, a’: R, if the FDs are given according to the first semantics, and a’ according to the second semantics, then the two sets of FDs are equal. Let FDK denote the class of all collections of functional dependencies. We will define a relation schema R as consistent (in FDK) if the location of functional dependencies of any instance in R is constant (in FDK). A standard method for modeling a functional dependency is the foreign key (McMurray et al., 2021). Dependencies are used for machine learning applications. In the context of machine learning, a dependency can represent, for example, a feature dependency, a categorical dependency, a semantic dependency, a lexical dependency, or a grammatical dependency. As examples of feature dependencies, a dependency is often used to express a dependency between a given input text string and a predicted output. In some instances, a result may be represented as a series of one or more feature values (McMurray et al., 2021).

Post 2 :- Closure of a set of functional dependencies is attained from a set of functional dependencies. It is also called a complete set of functional dependencies. When creating a database, we reduce redundancy by collecting a set F of functional dependencies that shows the challenges of the application under development (Charfi et al., 2017). It is necessary to obtain an F which is the largest but the practice is difficult to collect.

Sometimes, it is very easy to make observations of a set of functional dependencies but others are subtle and harder to make observation. There are a set of functional dependencies that can be derived from the easy ones for collection purposes. It is possible to rescue some functional dependencies that have skipped our attention. For those functional dependencies that cannot be retrieved from the easy ones, there is nothing to be done and designing have to continue without them. Since some functional dependencies cannot be obtained from the easy ones, data professionals are hence, not able to create perfect designs.

To find the closure of a set of attributes, it must check if a set of attributes is a Super-key. When determining the function of x, it need to consider looking at the closure of a set of attributes x that can be denoted by X+ (Varga, 2019). when it have a closure problem to compute, it need to have a set of functional dependencies with a set of x for finding the closure. While using abstract examples, we get the database designs. Using the abstract examples, we can calculate a set of dependencies. Given that R(A,B,C,D,E,F). The functional dependencies can be in the form of (AB->C, BC-AD, D->E, CF-.B}. what is {A,B}+?. Starting with (A, B), we have AB-> C to add C to {A, B}+. Lastly {A, B}+ is {A,B,C,D,E}.

Discuss insertion, deletion, and modification anomalies

Post 1:- Insertion anomalies: This occurs when insertion of important data is not possible when it is inserted into the database, because there is no other data present inside it occurrence of such issue is called Insertion anomalies. Let us consider an example of a network is constructed to keep the records of the customer before the file sales. But they cannot expand the buyers until they fetch the new edition of anything (Chen et al., 2021)

Deletion anomalies: This happens when the unwanted matter is to be deleted and without realizing, the useful matter also is deleted this situation is called Deletion anomalies (Chen et al., 2021) Let us take an example of a single database which contains information of company workers for suppose if some employees leave the company their particular data should be deleted but the data of the workers who are presently working also will be deleted along with them.

Modification anomalies: where a specific person is employed to maintain the current records with accuracy and he has to submit it whenever it is required (Mukherjee et al., 2021). For example, in a company there will be many promotions when a employee title must be changed because he or she is promoted if all the data is stored in the same table them there will be some confusion and a single person will have many titles, so the person who is employed in doing this work might not know which is the correct title associated to that employee

These anomalies are considered bad because, they are risky to maintain density in the database, it can result in useless updates of data, the storage will be consumed due to useless data (Mukherjee et al., 2021).

Post 2:-Database anomalies can be defined as the problems caused by the redundancy in the relations. The anomalies have a significant impact on inserting, deleting, and modifying data in the relations. The vital data can easily be lost if an elation is restructured that contains the database anomalies. It is essential to eliminate the anomalies to perform diverse processing without any issue with the relations. Different forms of database anomalies include modification, insertion, and deletion (Jurdak et al., 2011). The three forms of database anomalies are considered harmful because it is challenging to maintain the reliability of the data in the database. The other reason is that they lead to redundant data and cause unnecessary updates of information.

Modification anomalies can be described as data irregularities due to data redundancy or incomplete updates. If a change is not performed of the related rows, the database becomes unreliable, causing an update anomaly. Insertion anomalies are the problems that occur when initially inserting data into the database (Jurdak et al., 2011). Correct details should be inserted in the table to make them reliable with the other values. In this case, missing or inaccurately formatted entries are the main insertion errors. Most inventors admit that this will occur by building in the error codes that illustrate what happened.

On the other hand, deletion anomalies are the problems of the information being erased. For instance, when a row is deleted from a table representing the last part of the data, the details are also lost, making the users unable to proceed (Mercaldo et al., 2013). Since various deletion mistakes are not easily noticed for a long time, it can be challenging to recover them. Everyone experiences database anomalies in one way or another in life. Individuals and organizations should consider the backups of the data, storing offsite, and checking the data consistency to avoid losing the data.

Why woman live longer than man

INTRODUCTION

Women tend to live longer than men, but the question is why. The answer to that has many affecting variables , so there is no definite answer that will be applicable to all women.

BODY PARAGRAPH 1

Men are more likely to take on dangerous work because they are more capable of completing things in terms of strength. In addition to that, due to the stronger strength of men, they are able to take more risks in their jobs and achieve better results in otherwise difficult and dangerous jobs.

BODY PARAGRAPH 2

Women live longer than men genetically because of X and Y chromosomes(X means a longer life span). Women/females have two X chromosomes whereas men only have one X and one Y chromosome. X chromosomes are important to the brain and are linked to survival. However Y chromosomes are only found in men and do not serve a survival purpose.

BODY PARAGRAPH 3

Annually millions of people die due to smoking and smoke exposure. The majority of smokers are men meaning that on default more men will die rather than women. Smoking is one of the larger factors contributing to the number of male deaths.

CONCLUSION

There are many other reasons that males die earlier than women but this doesn’t apply to every male. Smoking, genetics and choice of work are just few of many reasons of why this is true. Many other factors have not been discovered yet but, does it really matter?
