Economics 4340: Experimental Economics

Question 4: When (and why) would we rely on a stranger?

Answer the following questions as best as possible given your understanding of the assigned reading(s). You are allowed to work with other students but please use your own words in your summary responses.

  1. What are the central research questions of the study?

  1. What game do the experimenters use to test trust? Why do they deliberately not choose to refer to it as a “trust game” in the experiment?

  1. Explain (as briefly as possible) how the double-blind procedure in the experiment works to ensure complete anonymity of participants.

  1. What are three reasons why it was beneficial for the experimenters to utilize a double-blind procedure in this particular experiment?

  1. True or False: Providing subjects with a “social history” table increases the amount sent by the “trustors” and increases reciprocity observed in the experiment. Explain why or why not.

  1. What are the primary results/findings of the experiment?

  1. Complete the following sentences and briefly explain your thought process and/or motivation.

(a) If I were a subject placed in the position of “trustor” in this experiment, I would have sent $____ to the person in the other room. Why?

(b) If I were placed in the position of “trustee” in the experiment, and the “trustor” sent me $4.00, I would have sent $____ back to the trustor. Why?

DSS Case Study: Discover dataset’s data structure, trends, patterns, or any anomalies using Microsoft Excel

Use only selected or assigned dataset and analyze the data using Microsoft Excel to discover the structure of data, trends, patterns, or any anomalies in the data based on your own hypothesis. Perform the following tasks. You should use visualization to aid your answer.

Your project will include two main parts:

  1. The final project report which must incorporate all the following 5 tasks and is written using the provided template. (10 marks distributed among the below tasks).
  2. A presentation that illustrates your five tasks. (4 marks)

==========================================================

Task 1: Understand and describe the nature and structure of the selected dataset. (2 marks)

  • A brief description regarding the dataset.
  • Identify the features of dataset.
  • Propose hypothesis / assumptions (between two variables) to validate.

Task 2: Reduce the dimension of the datasets to support the hypothesis validation. If necessary, do data preprocessing on any missing values, duplicate values, etc. You can also generate new features from any of the provided features that may support your hypothesis. Due to the limitation of processing power of some devices, you can reduce your dataset to 1000 tuples. (2 marks)

Task 3: Provide descriptive statistics for some features using statistical methods to understand the dataset more and answer the following analysis questions :(3 marks)

  • Compare different attributes (features). What trend did you find?
  • Include any of the “measure of central tendency” such as the mean, median, and mode.
  • Describe the spread of your data. This may include the measure of variance, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis.

(You are encouraged to impose other analysis questions based on any trend you notice in the dataset).

Task 4: Validate the hypothesis in Task 3 by investigating the relationship between two quantitative variables you have chosen using correlation, regression and R-squared with possible conclusions. (2 marks)

Task 5: Show visual representation of your analysis (hint: use the right chart/graph for your data analysis). (1 mark)

Unit 7 Discussion – Reflection on Financial Health

Many people find managing their money a difficult task. Their use of credit cards and loans early in their adult years can prevent them from acquiring financial health in their lifetime. It is tempting to spend money you have not yet acquired once you are no longer a student trying to make ends meet

INSTRUCTIONS:
Complete the two financial health activities (The True Cost of a New Car and The True Cost of Credit Card Use) presented in Unit 7 Topic “Financial Health” related to spending money you do not have.
Share your experience with “The True Cost of a New Car” activity with your peers
Change the size of the loan, years to pay it back, and the interest rate three (3) to four (4) times.
Start with the lowest loan amount you might need for your new care and increase by $5000 to $10000 each turn.
Start with a 3% loan (entered as .03) and increase by one (1) or two (2) percent each turn.
In each case choose between 5 and 7 years to pay it back.
Describe one of the monthly payments you would have to make based on your selections.
Loan amount?
Interest rate?
Years to pay it back?
Monthly payment?
Total car cost?
Discuss the potential impact a car payment of that size might have on your monthly budget.
Describe the other monthly expenses you would have to remove or reduce to make your payments.
Why Is or isn’t the car worth the sacrifices you might have to make given the size of the monthly payments?
What other options do you have to avoid taking out a car loan?
Share your experience with ” The True Cost of Credit Card Use” activity with your peers
Consider the following scenario:
You spend an extra $50 a month using a credit card for the first year after graduation to make ends meet.
The interest rate charged by the credit card company is 18%.
The minimum payment you are required to send each month is $20.
Now consider the real cost of that $50 dollars a month by the end of that first year provided to you in the exercise.
How might the continued use of a credit card to fund an extra $50 of spending per month affect your long-term financial health?
Describe two ways you could avoid the long-term consequences of spending more than you have on a regular basis.
Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format.

Nursing intervention

Nursing intervention is classification care, a classification system that describes the activities that nurses perform as part of the planning phase of the nursing process associated with the creation of a nursing care plan. Its interventions are actions a nurse takes to implement their patient care plan, including any treatments, procedures, or teaching moments intended to improve the patient comfort and health.

My practicum setting Amygdala is a mental health behavioral clinic, which caters to mental health patients within the urban cities in Houston, for this practicum, the goal starts with diagnosing, gathering information, and family history. The organizational intervention that is geared toward aiding the objectives of this practicum setting, treating and curing patients of their primary diagnoses through the use of pharmaceuticals, and non-pharmaceutic means, encourages patient and family involvement in the interventions to cure their loved ones; caring outpatient teaching that includes the individual and community through outreach and a preventative approach. With the use of these interventions in the community, the population gets to believe in a health care system that is seeking to keep their community healthy and free of preventable illnesses, the intervention also encourages individuals who are symptomatic of mental illness will seek help as they get to know, they aren’t alone with their diagnoses.

ANT 11. Short Written Tasks

Generally describe the various subfields of anthropology. Why is this area of investigation considered to be among the most holistic perspectives that study human behavior?

2. Know how the New World was originally populated. When and where did this most likely take place? What are some of the current arguments that try to explain the population numbers present in Latin America before the arrival of Columbus?

3. The field of Anthropology differs from disciplines that study human behavior in that it uses a unique method of investigation. The approach requires that cultures and communities be studied holistically, comparatively, and relativistically. Explain.

4. In our increasingly interdependent world, why might studying the anthropology of Latin America and the Caribbean be so important?

5. Why is the study of shantytowns important? Why are works by Oscar Lewis and NancyScheper-Hughes so controversial? In what ways are their arguments different and similar, and why?

Sample, Reliability, and Validity

Sample

The target population will be adults diagnosed with depression aged between 18 and 65 years. The sample will include equal numbers of male and female participants to ensure generalizability. Participants will be people with a clinical diagnosis of depression and already taking antidepressants. Therefore, purposive sampling will be used to obtain the sample population. At least 60 participants will be randomized to the intervention and control group (30 participants each). The target sample is appropriate for this study because they have a clinical diagnosis of depression. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) in addition to antidepressants and hence recruiting adults with depression is appropriate for the study.

Reliability

Patients will be randomized to intervention and control group and data collection will be through the patient Health Questionnaire—9 (PHQ-9). Data will be collected before and after the intervention. Before starting PMR on the intervention group, the severity of depression will be assessed in both groups using the PHQ-9. After the intervention, severity will be assessed again. The tool is administered by the clinician and is a short (30-minutes) assessment of depression and patient wellbeing outcomes. Levis et al. (2019) reported a test-retest reliability of 0.74 for this tool. The tool has been validated and hence is reliable in evaluating depression.

Validity

The PHQ-9 is also a valid tool for data collection on depression severity. It has been validated in various studies and found to have a high level of validity. In one study by Maroufizadeh et al. (2019), the tool had an internal consistency of 0.84 and strong convergent validity when compared with other tools for depression severity. Therefore, the tool will be employed in the study. The target sample is adults with depression and the tool has been validated for this sample.
